Porsche 911 (997.1)

2005–2009·Series 997.1

Introduced for the 2005 model year, the 997.1 returned the 911 to round headlamps and a cleaner rear profile while bringing a sharper technical split across the range. Carrera and Carrera S opened with 325- and 355-hp flat-sixes; the S added 19-inch wheels and standard PASM. All-wheel-drive C4 and C4S arrived in 2005, followed by the variable-turbine Turbo, glass-roof Targa, and a run of GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, and Cup derivatives. Variable-ratio steering and PASM gave the road cars a broader adjustment range, while the GT branch sharpened engines, aero, brakes, and chassis hardware around circuit work. It is a generation whose range divides clearly between narrow-body rear drive, wide-body all-wheel drive, turbocharged thrust, and naturally aspirated track focus. Each branch carries its own engine, driveline, bodywork, equipment, and operating priorities.
