Porsche crestPORSCHE STUTTGART

Porsche 911 (993)

1994–1998·Series 993

The 911 (993) is the fourth generation of Porsche's 911, produced from 1994 to 1998 at Porsche's Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen factory. It replaced the 964. Porsche gave this generation a new all-alloy multi-link independent rear suspension on its own subframe, replacing the semi-trailing-arm layout every prior 911 generation had used since the original car, engineered specifically to reduce a lift-off oversteer tendency that had followed the 911 since its introduction. Porsche put roughly 400 million Deutschmarks, on the order of $250 million at the time, and four years into this generation's development. About 20 percent of its parts carried over from the 964, meaning roughly 80 percent of the car was new.
