1970 Porsche LWB 911TRestomod
7,000 mi - TMU · manual · West Bloomfield, MI
The Porsche 911 debuted as the "Porsche 901" at the Frankfurt Motor Show, succeeding the 356. Peugeot held trademark rights to three-digit names with a zero in the middle, so Porsche renamed the car "911" before series production began in September 1964. Body styling traces to sketches by Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche. The car replaced the 356's air-cooled four-cylinder engine with a new air-cooled, rear-mounted flat-six sharing almost no parts with it, giving the 911 more space, power, and comfort than the car it replaced. Porsche built it in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart. This generation ran from 1964 through 1973, with the Carrera RS 2.7 carrying production into early 1974, before the impact-bumper "G-series" 911 replaced it for the 1974 model year.
