1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4
150,000 mi - TMU · manual · Oakland, MD
The Porsche 911 (964) replaced the outgoing air-cooled Carrera 3.2, known as the G-series 911, and was produced from 1989 through 1994. Porsche undertook this generation as a near-total re-engineering, describing close to 85% of the car's components as newly developed compared to the Carrera 3.2. That re-engineering brought coil-spring suspension in place of the original torsion-bar setup, along with power steering, ABS, central locking, electrically height-adjustable front seats, and a stronger heater, all fitted into a shape that still had to read unmistakably as a 911. It was the first 911 generation to offer power steering and ABS as standard equipment, the first to offer all-wheel drive, and the first to offer an automatic-adjacent transmission, called Tiptronic.
