Porsche 911 (G-Series)

1974–1989·G-Series

The Porsche 911 impact-bumper generation, internally coded G-series with the Turbo variant coded 930, was built from 1974 to 1989. It replaced the pre-1974 long-hood 911. The redesign existed to meet a US regulation requiring the car to withstand impacts up to 5 mph without damage, met with bellows-style rubber accordion bumpers and a compressible rubber nose lip. That bumper design carried through essentially unchanged for the full run. Total production across the generation ran to approximately 198,496 units. This generation was replaced by the 964 in late 1989, though the 930 Turbo continued on this platform until a turbocharged 964 succeeded it in 1991.
