Built at Stuttgart and Valmet from model years 1997 through 2004, the 986 Boxster introduced Porsche to modern mid-engine roadster production. Conceived by CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and styled by Grant Larson, the Boxster shared front bodywork and interior architecture with the 996 Carrera. Power came from water-cooled M96 flat-six engines, opening with a 2.5-liter unit before stepping to 2.7-liter and 3.2-liter S variants. The 986 remains an accessible entry point to modern mid-engine Porsche handling.
