Manufactured from 2017 to the present, the Porsche 718 Boxster (internal generation code 982) marked a historic powertrain transition for Porsche's mid-engine roadster, reviving the historic four-cylinder 718 racing moniker. The base model and Boxster S introduced turbocharged flat-four engines, including a 2.0-liter producing 300 horsepower and a 2.5-liter with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) generating 350 to 365 hp, delivering immediate low-end torque through either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. Enthusiast acclaim reached new heights when Porsche re-introduced the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine in the Boxster GTS 4.0 (394 hp) and the motorsport-engineered 718 Spyder (414 hp) revving to 8,000 rpm. The generation culminated with the track-focused 718 Spyder RS, borrowing the 493 hp naturally aspirated 911 GT3 engine revving to 9,000 rpm, establishing the 982 as one of the most mechanically diverse roadster platforms in Porsche history.
