1964 Porsche 356C
9,000 mi · manual · Tucson, AZ
Manufactured between 1963 and 1965 across 16,678 total units, the Porsche 356C represents the final and most mechanically refined evolution of Ferry Porsche's seminal rear-engine sports car. Built on the T6 body architecture, the 356C's defining mechanical breakthrough was the introduction of standard four-wheel ATE hydraulic disc brakes mounted behind flatter chrome hubcaps, replacing finned aluminum drums and complex Annular discs. The powertrain portfolio centered on two 1.6-liter air-cooled pushrod flat-fours: the standard 75 hp 1600 C and the higher-compression 95 hp 1600 SC equipped with twin Solex 40 PII-4 carburetors and a transverse rear compensating spring. For elite competition, Porsche fitted Ernst Fuhrmann's 130 hp 2.0-liter Type 587/2 quad-cam engine to 126 Carrera 2 models. Production overlapped with the early 901 and 911 before concluding in 1965, marking the end of seventeen years of classic four-cylinder 356 manufacturing.
