Jaguar E-Type Series 1

1961–1968·Series Series 1

The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 is the first form of the E-Type, launched in March 1961 and built before North American safety and emissions rules brought later cars a larger grille, bigger bumpers, and open headlights. It took its triple SU 3.8-liter XK six from the XK150S, an engine family that had carried Jaguar to five Le Mans victories, and its structure from the Le Mans-winning D-Type. Aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer shaped the body and claimed it was a purely mathematical shape. Enzo Ferrari called it the most beautiful car ever made, and Sports Car International ranked it first among the top sports cars of its decade. In GarageScout's view, the Series 1 is the reference point for the whole E-Type line, the car in which the original idea is clearest.
