GarageScout Take

A builder-led 964 backdate with a freshly built 3.8-liter, steel long-hood bodywork, and a period-minded Spirit of Le Mans tartan interior, completed with a full chassis and brake overhaul. Black is uncommon among observed examples of this generation. The extensive departure from original Carrera 2 specification and the minimal post-build mileage leave the engine and restoration work lightly proven, while the Rhino-coated underside limits inspection of the underlying metal.

Strengths

  • Comprehensively disassembled and rebuilt as a long-hood backdate by the shop that says it built its first 964 backdate in 2005.
  • Fresh 3.8-liter engine build with upgraded internals and a claimed output of approximately 330 horsepower at the rear wheels.
  • Extensive chassis and brake overhaul with adjustable coilovers, H&R sway bars, and 993 Turbo brakes.
  • Grey leather and Spirit of Le Mans blue tartan interior with early 911 S-style seats and custom square-weave carpeting.

Watch For

  • The car has been extensively modified from its original 964 Carrera 2 specification, including backdated bodywork, a 3.8-liter engine, suspension changes
  • The engine and restoration work were completed shortly before the sale, with fewer than 100 miles driven since completion.
  • The underside was coated with Rhino spray-on bedliner during the build.
