GarageScout Take

The 1999 model year matters mechanically: it retains the earlier double-row IMS bearing used on 1997 through 1999 cars. At 71,800 miles, it sits above the middle for the generation. The open concerns are the 2017 minor-damage record, exterior and upholstery wear, 2017-dated front tires, and an IMS replacement that is not known to have been performed.

Strengths

  • First-generation 986 Boxster example.
  • Arctic Silver Metallic with a blue soft top and Metropol Blue interior.
  • Build sheet, two keys, and owner's manual included.

Watch For

  • Carfax reports minor damage in August 2017.
  • Exterior chips and scratches, missing Porsche logos from two center caps, and upholstery wear are noted.
  • The front tires carry 2017 date codes.
  • IMS bearing replacement is not known to have been performed.
