GarageScout Take

A 37-year restoration by the same Porsche technician, retaining the matching-numbers 2.4-liter engine and its date-coded Fuchs, gives this final-year 911S Targa unusually deep continuity. Mileage sits above the middle for the generation, and the red refinish from Sepia Brown, 915 conversion, non-charging air-conditioning hose, dashboard crack, and windshield-cowl scratch remain part of the car’s record.

Strengths

  • Final-year 1973 F-Body 911S Targa, one of 925 produced.
  • Factory-optioned Sport Seats, stainless-steel rear bumper skirt, tinted glass, engine-compartment light, noise suppression
  • Long-term single-owner history with a bare-metal restoration and extensive mechanical work.
  • Original engine with matching numbers documented by the Porsche COA.
  • Original 15-inch Fuchs wheels retain 1972 date codes.

Watch For

  • Refinished in red from its original Sepia Brown (54).
  • Converted from the original Sportomatic gearbox to a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle.
  • Factory air conditioning is said to function, but the original red cloth-wrapped hose does not hold a charge.
  • Small crack in the dashboard and small scratch on the windshield cowl.
