GarageScout Take

Built on October 13, 1964, and purchased by the current owner in 2010, this Sunbeam Tiger received a refurbishment by Rootes Group Depot of Santa Clara, completed circa 2013. The 302ci donor block was seasoned, bored.020 inches over, and installed circa 2013 after the previous five-bolt 289ci engine failed. The black removable hardtop was refinished during the early-2010s refurbishment, and the carpeting, wood dashboard, Smiths clock, and gauges were also attended to.

Strengths

  • Built 302ci V8 with Blue Thunder and Crower components
  • Tremec TKO-600 five-speed built by Modern Driveline
  • Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes and Dale’s Restorations coilovers
  • Dana 44 limited-slip rear end installed approximately 1k miles ago

Watch For

  • California title lists the car as a 1965 Rootes convertible
  • Title omits the “LRXFE” suffix from the VIN
  • Factory Moonstone paint was changed to British Racing Green
  • The current engine is a replacement 302ci V8
