GarageScout Take

The uncommon five-speed conversion and documented forged-piston engine overhaul give this 242 a mechanical specification outside the usual examples, while its white exterior is also uncommon among observed cars of this generation.

Strengths

  • Documented engine overhaul with forged pistons, cylinder boring and honing, and replacement internal components.
  • M47 five-speed manual transmission conversion.
  • Substantial recent brake-system renewal under current ownership.
  • Front seats and rear bench were re-trimmed in black leatherette under previous ownership.

Watch For

  • Total mileage is unknown because the speedometer and odometer have been inoperative since the transmission swap.
  • Rust-through is present behind the right rear wheel, along with a dent in the left rocker panel, cracked front turn-signal lenses, and bumper imperfections.
  • The car was repainted white around 2018, received touch-up paint in 2026, and the Washington title carries an “Antique” brand while listing the color as silver.
  • Interior issues include missing door map pockets, cracks in the dashboard top, and additional blemishes shown in the gallery.
