The engine build is the separator here, with Gene Berg internals and valvetrain work backed by recent clutch, sealing, fuel, ignition, and valve-adjustment service. The tradeoff is cosmetic and functional sorting still needed, including the ill-fitting soft top, inaccurate fuel gauge, split driver's seat seams, and repaired front bumper.

Strengths

  • Long-term ownership since August 2012, with approximately 5,000 miles added by the seller.
  • Extensively modified air-cooled engine with Gene Berg internals, CIMA/Mahle pistons and cylinders, dual valve springs, and dual carburetors.
  • February 2026 service included a clutch kit, crankshaft seals, fuel system components, ignition parts, valve adjustment, and an oil and filter change.
  • Includes a tonneau cover and removable side wing windows with storage cases.

Watch For

  • Some exterior chips and scratches, pitting on some trim, and a ding on the driver's-side rear hubcap.
  • The driver's seat has split seams.
  • The fuel gauge is inaccurate.
  • The soft top needs to be stretched in the sun to fit, and the front bumper was repaired and repainted.
