GarageScout Take

Its significance is the combination of Maserati’s larger, more luxurious coupe body with the twin-turbo V6 and dogleg five-speed, giving the 228 a distinct identity from the Biturbo it replaced.

Strengths

  • Limited production of 469 examples with the dogleg 5-speed manual.
  • Documented service history includes replacement of the fuel pump and catalytic converter, along with a May 2025 inspection.
  • Two sets of keys, owner's manuals, spare parts, and rubber floor mats are included.

Watch For

  • The instrument cluster was replaced under previous ownership, so the true mileage is unknown and the car is listed as TMU.
  • The Carfax report begins in 1990 and contains gaps. Its no-accident record applies only to the period covered.
  • Exterior chips and scratches are present, along with a cracked driver-side fog-light lens and a repaired windshield chip.
  • The air-conditioning system does not blow cold. The cabin has seat and touch-point wear, cracked wood trim
