GarageScout Take

The 2002 conversion is unusually well integrated for a V8 914, retaining the Type 901 five-speed and both trunks through underbody and front-mounted cooling. The tradeoffs are a repainted, flared body, deleted factory heat, and several small electrical and interior faults.

Strengths

  • Long-term ownership since 1983, with approximately 8,200 miles added under current ownership.
  • The 2002 V8 conversion includes FAST EFI, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, MSD ignition, a remote electric water pump
  • The reinforced Type 901 five-speed transaxle remains in place behind the Chevrolet V8.
  • The original-color repaint is paired with the Appearance Group equipment, removable black Targa top, and seller-installed EMPI GT-8 wheels.

Watch For

  • The body was repainted in its original color, and the fenders were rolled and flared.
  • The factory interior heating system was removed during the V8 conversion.
  • The right-front parking light and clock are inoperative, with exposed dashboard wiring from a removed radar detector.
  • The passenger seat vinyl has a blemish, and the driver’s lower seat cushion was recently reupholstered.
