GarageScout Take

This 1968 Firebird offers a rebuilt and interestingly equipped 400ci V8 with a Tri-Power setup on a three-speed automatic. The repaint from April Gold to red and aftermarket steering wheel affect originality, and the non-functioning air conditioning is noted.

Strengths

  • Rebuilt original displacement 400ci V8 with period-correct Tri-Power induction.
  • Includes owner’s manual and build photos with clean Michigan title.
  • Complete drivetrain with Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential and TH400 transmission.
  • Additional instrumentation including Sun Super Tach II tachometer and supplemental gauges.
  • Documentation of fuel tank replacement in 2024.

Watch For

  • Exterior paint was redone circa 1990, replacing original April Gold finish; paint blemishes are visible.
  • Air conditioning system does not blow cold air.
  • Aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel replaces the factory unit.
  • Front and rear drum brakes rather than disc brakes, which may affect stopping performance.
