GarageScout Take
P1006 has an unusually direct F.A.V. competition and development history, from introducing the Le Mans Mk. Its Monza crash was documented as localized, but the suspension and sill panels went to P1000, while the present period-correct 4.7-liter V8 and ZF gearbox were fitted later; dedicated track preparation is advised before full historic use.
Strengths
- One of 56 GT40 Mk. I racing cars produced for the 1965 World Sportscar Championship, with documented F.A.V. race and development history.
- A substantial history file includes the factory Production Car Record, restoration invoices, provenance correspondence, and pre-restoration photographs.
- Retains its factory-correct Linden Green livery and the Le Mans Mk. I front-panel design introduced on P1006.
Watch For
- P1006 crashed at Monza in 1965 after a brake caliper failure; F.A.V. records describe the damage as localized.
- Its suspension components and sill panels were donated to the completion of GT40 chassis P1000 after the Monza incident.
- The fitted Ford V8 and ZF transmission were added after P1006's competitive period and are not original to the car.
- Dedicated track preparation is advised before continued historic racing at full potential.
